Seattle's third baseman Mike Easler had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Mike went 14 for 22 (.636), while hitting 4 HR and collecting 12 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 7 games. The National League's best player of the week was Los Angeles (N)'s Bill D. Doran, who wins the award for the 3rd time in his career. In 19 at bats he hit .579 with 1 HR and 4 RBI.
Sunday 8/14/1985: Jimmy Key (CIN) will miss 5 weeks
CINCINNATI - Cincinnati is without its southpaw Jimmy Key for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Al Chambers in a game against San Diego. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Ruptured Tricep Tendon was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. His ERA of 5.69 helped him to a 3-14 record this year. He struck out 68 and walked 29 in 136 innings. He has 2 complete games and one shutout.
Wednesday 8/10/1985: Bob Knepper dominates San Diego, gives up just 2 hits
SAN DIEGO - Great days are rare. But not for Houston's left-hander Bob Knepper. San Diego found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 9th time he has done it in his career. Knepper (5-8) struck out 3 and walked none, throwing 55 of 81 pitches for strikes. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Houston's leftfielder Rickey Henderson finished with 1 hit in 4 AB. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Knepper. The final score of the game was 2-0.

It's the 9th time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Boston's first baseman Cecil Cooper. He hit .524 with 6 RBI and slugged 1.143 in 21 at bats. It's the 1st time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Los Angeles (N)'s centerfielder Brian Greer. He hit .524 with 9 RBI and slugged 1.000 in 21 at bats. Brian has gone 117 for 376 (.311) this season, hitting 10 bombs and driving in 65 runs. He has scored 64 runs on his own. He's 3rd in the National League in batting and 6th in RBI!
