Tuesday 9/6/1985: Steve McCatty dominates Texas, throws NO-HITTER
TEXAS - Boston's right-hander Steve McCatty is a really great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff while making history, blanking Texas on no hits. 'Today I just felt great. I had a good feeling while warming up, and I knew something special was about to happen.' McCatty (17-10) fanned 3 and walked 4, throwing 96 pitches. Boston's designated hitter Andres Galarraga finished with 2 hits in 5 AB, hitting two dingers, scoring two runs and collecting 5 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of McCatty. Boston scored 12 runs on 16 hits.
Monday 9/5/1985: Baltimore's Walker wins Player of the Week award
It's the 2nd time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Baltimore's second baseman Chico Walker. In 27 at bats he hit .444 with 5 HR and 12 RBI. Chicago (N)'s second baseman Ryne Sandberg had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Sunday 9/4/1985: Huge blow for Toronto's Hoyt, career over
TORONTO - It was one of baseball saddest days. Toronto's right-hander LaMarr Hoyt fell victim to a career ending injury in a game against New York (A) on Sunday. He complained about pain after throwing a pitch to Ramon Aviles, then suddenly collapsed. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Bone Chips Shoulder which will require surgery. Opposing players hit .274 against LaMarr this season. While posting an ERA of 4.64 he went 5-9 in 18 starts, fanning 107 and walking 58 hitters. LaMarr has pitched one shutout and 3 complete games. His career featured a record of 96-121 with an ERA of 3.51. Baseball will certainly miss this great player.
