Cubs send CL-Johnny Klippstein to the Giants in exchange for 3B-Hank Thompson.
We have depth in our bullpen and Elston is ready to take over the 9th inning role. We have a number of young starters nearing being ready and we'd like to get a few of them a look in the pen before moving them to the rotation, so this trade allows that. I asked about Thompson during the season and got shot down. We've tried hard to find a good 3B and we now have one, at least for a couple of years. His desire to play for a winner concerns us, but I'm hoping to be at least competitive in a couple of years to where if we want to retain him we'll have that chance.
