We are going to a Miami Marlins game (yes we are wasting money on a marlins game) on April 21. Does anyone know the Miami area and can suggest a good area to stay with the family? Is the stadium close to the cruise port?

My best advice, don't stay by the airport lol. Stayed in a room near the airport that had a bullet hole in the front window of the room I was in..................

It's not far from the port as the crow flies, but with traffic could easily take over 30 minutes (rush hr longer). The Stadium is in little havana, but the edge of it. chicubs characterization of the Airport area is overblown, yes there are some shitholes in the area, but there are also high end hotels there too. For family stay, there are a ton of places and it comes down to price range and how far from the stadium / port you want to be. Don't take Jeff or impressionable kids near 14th street miami beach (topless ) The coconut grove area is really nice, and trendy. Miami is heavily hispanic and knowing spanish is useful. Stay out of overtown, and little haiti. calle ocho towards the high rise area of miami is where you want to go for amazing cuban cusine during the day, at night you need to be familiar with where is safe. If you are OK with a little drive and want an area with nice Beach access, my favorite is Bahia Mar in Ft Lauderdale... usually 200-250 night. When I travel with doggie it's the la quinta out in west sunrise (way west of the FtL beach 110-130 night and near the largest outlet mall in the world? Sawgrass mills mall, over a mile from end to end indoors). The hotels on Miami beach tend to fall into 2 categories, really nice and f'n expensive, and semi expensive in a historic hotel with small rooms. Jeff has me on hangouts, if there are some specific areas you are curious about have him poke me, I lived in South Florida from 85-06 and for 7 yrs more or less lived with a girl down in west miami. Doubt it could be arranged, but just in case, when do ya all get into town down there. We'll be passing back through from Key Largo on the 20th (daughters spring break beach vacation )

Matt thanks. Remind me to tell you about our trip with Carpenter to D.C. I will never forgive him or Jeff (more Jeff) for that trip.
Brian thanks. So much helpful info. We are actually flying into Ft Lauderdale on the 20th. Hanging in the area and going to the game on the 21st then get on the cruise ship on Monday the 22nd.

Just because the police say change hotels doesn't mean you have to change hotels!

😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😇 Just because the police say change hotels doesn't mean you have to change hotels! Matt it wasn't just a police officer. It was either the SWAT team or a tactical team. Either way....they had big guns and it was a few doors down from where we were staying.

Some agencies call it a tactical team because of the negative connotation of SWAT. Sounds like a fun time

Either way....they had big guns and it was a few doors down from where we were staying. It was 5-6 police officers. I'll never forget that. Get off the elevators, go around the corner and see the cops walking at us.... Jeff says as we pass them "maybe we want to pick a different hotel" to which the cop replies "That probably wouldn't be a bad idea." So what do we do? Go in the room and stay there for 3-4 nights. Probably not our smartest moment, but we survived and had a great time! (there was probably a reason that hotel was around $100 and the other ones in the area were close to or over $200.....)

Ok. I’ll poke the bear (she’s more like a harmless cub).
Not only that but the...... *Strong daily smell of marijuana (skunk weed) in the halls every evening. *the condom wrapper we found in the trash in the “clean room” (only thing in the trash can hahahahaha) *the “fire alarm” going off early in the morning scaring the crap out of Jen *Jen waking up to Lexie with chocolate all over her from donuts.

The fire alarm was my alarm clock 😂😂😂 Exactly. I was rolling. She jumped up so fast and was ready to grab Lexie and get out. Omg....I’m dying just thinking about it. She just asked me what I was laughing at.

Damn.
On a totally different note, I'm going to to Denver with my Dad for a Jays-Rockies game? Anyone have any experience with touristy stuff in the Denver area? We probably won't have much time - maybe time for a bar or restaurant on Friday night or a day trip on Sunday before a seven PM flight.

Not sure if you have the ability to get out of town, but part of my studies/research has been looking at today's popular uses to plan for --- and O'Dell's Brewing Company in Fort Collins has been used as a precedent a number of times of late. I have not been there, but it's great from what I hear.

Plenty of great bars and restaurants by coors field. You will not have any issues finding great places. You can also go to 16'th street mall (walking distance from the stadium.) has bars/restaurants and lots of little shops. If you have kids then Casa Bonita for dinner is a must. Food not great but fun place. Day trips? Hmmm. - Pearl Street mall in Boulder. Shopping & street performers. - Just go for a drive to the west. - Go hiking/driving up at golden Gate State Park. - Gambling up in black hawk - A long drive but the town Estes Park is an awesome mountain town. - Rocky Mountain Nation park right there too. You would need a full day though to drive through the entire park. Let me know if you want any more specifics.

I wanna hit up at least one of Coors Field Dodger Stadium or AT&T this summer. I’ve been to obv both NY stadiums, Citizens Bank in Philly with Stutter a couple times, Fenway, Camden (loved the atmosphere...very festive), Wrigley (I hope all of you go there and Fenway each at least once), Target Field in Minny (really nice stadium but don’t go in colder months lol), and Turner Field when it was around until very recently. Shea, old Yankee Stadium and the Metrodome are the defunct parks I got to see. Really wanna start going out west more.

Neither my Dad or I do much driving and we usually just cab/transit around, but that's worked out better in some places than others. I suppose renting a car is an outside possibility, but if the cliffs are anything like they are in the Alberta rockies I'll pass. Probably not super into casinos/malls, if anything I'd like to just go up into the mountains for a few hours on Sunday. But like I said, we'll be strapped for time, so it'll probably have to be a short trip.

if it was later in the year (july), going to the top of Mt Evans would be a must... looking down on pikes peak is amazing. There is a restaurant on a lake near the start of the road that takes you up to the old weather station. Pearl street mall isn't your typical mall, and... worth visiting once Only been to denver / boulder 10-30 times (corperate office was in bolder and ended up dating one of the call screeners), and my favorite times were always driving west and just looking for scenic spots to snap a few pictures.

Carpenter has been to most of them with us. We have done everything east of Colorado and Arizona except Miami (doing that next month). We also have to do NY and Boston left (maybe next year). We will do Arizona and Colorado in the same trip. Then the trip I think Jeff is looking forward to is flying out to San Diego and renting an RV and taking 2 weeks driving up the west coast and flying home from Seattle. After that we are done. Hoping the stadium tour will be done in 3-4 years.

Yankee Stadium is all pinstripe aura and I sorta got lost in CF the first time I went there lol. Citi field though is awesome. Great food and the pricing isn’t too crazy compared to the Bronx. Very family friendly and it just looks awesome.
