Baseball fans of the Braves, today we honor our first ever Cy Young award winner and the man that propelled Atlanta to the first ever WS Championship, Tom Seaver.
While Tom won the Cy Young 2x in the past 81 was his most dominate performance. Had a higher winning percentage, and tied for the most wins with fewer starts than the other season.
Add in his 4-0 post season vs his winless post seasons in the previous Cy Yong years and you can see how much more sweet this one is to him and baseball in general.
The only award Tom didn't win was post season MVP, as his 1.85 era with 4 wins was beat out by Housman's also 4 wins and a 0.61 era.
We honor him today by retiring his number Here in Atlanta as he did so much for the Braves in the short time he was hear, and also with a statue in front of the stadium to join thee all time greatest Atlanta Brave, Hammerin Hank.
We thank Tom for coming to the ballpark tonight, as a reminder to all about what excelence is about, and hoping the team this year emultaes his ethos and drives through September without letting up, until October is complete.
