While compiling an on base percentage of .375, Gorman hit .309 and slugged .564. He has collected 10 runs batted in this year. Tom Brunansky from San Diego wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. In 25 at bats he hit .360 with 5 HR and 12 RBI. NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s rightfielder Paul O'Neill suffered a season ending injury when he hurt himself diving for a ball. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Ruptured Disc Back which will require surgery. While compiling an on base percentage of .380, Paul hit .367 and slugged .694. He has collected 11 runs batted in this year.

'This day is special, I'll probably remember it my whole life. Thank god I'm blessed with the talent to play this game.'

TORONTO - 'Wow, five hits in one game is something special, isn't it?' said Toronto's centerfielder Reid Nichols after the 9-6 win over Baltimore. In the 2nd inning he unloaded a two-run triple off Charles Hudson. A double off Charles Hudson in the 4th inning accounted for his 3rd hit. In the 8th inning he unloaded a triple off Bob Ojeda. He collected singles in the 1st inning and in the 5th inning . Reid scored 2 runs, and he collected 2 RBI as well! This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 9 hits in 25 at bats, resulting in a .360 batting average.

KANSAS CITY - It was one of baseball saddest days. Kansas City's right-hander Bob Apodaca fell victim to a career ending injury in a game against Detroit on Wednesday. He complained about pain after throwing a pitch to Andre Dawson, then suddenly collapsed. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Ruptured Disc Back. His career featured a record of 46-40 with an ERA of 3.60. Baseball will certainly miss this great player.

CALIFORNIA - Hitting a homerun is fine, but hitting three of them in one game is something special. California's third baseman Danny Goodwin accomplished that feat in a 17-5 win over Texas. A 383 foot drive to right field marked his 1st bomb, a three-run homerun off Ed Halicki in the 1st inning. In the 4th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Luis DeLeon. His 3rd shot, a two-run homerun off Lary Sorensen in the 7th inning, cleared the fence in right field. Overall he collected 3 hits in 5 trips to the plate, with three runs scored and collecting 6 RBI.

Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Terrell (1-0) fanned 6 and walked none, throwing 92 pitches. The hitting star for Texas was first baseman Kent Hrbek, he got 3 hits in 4 AB. Sunday 4/3/1986: Walt Terrell pitches 1-hit shutout against California
CALIFORNIA - Walt Terrell had his best stuff going, and California hitters had nothing to cheer about. Texas' right-hander pitched a 1-hitter, his 1st shutout of the season. Danny Goodwin spoiled the bid for a no-hitter when he doubled with two outs in the 8th inning. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Terrell (1-0) fanned 6 and walked none, throwing 92 pitches. The hitting star for Texas was first baseman Kent Hrbek, he got 3 hits in 4 AB. Texas improved its record to 1-0, scoring 2 runs on 10 hits.
