The American League Player of the Week award goes to George Foster, California's starting centerfielder. Foster helped his team with an average of .407 and 7 RBI in 27 at bats. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 8 game hitting streak right now. His season numbers are: .278 AVG, 27 hits, 5 doubles, 3 triples and 6 taters, along with 15 RBI and 18 runs scored. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to St. Louis' Rex Hudler this time, as the second baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. His ERA of just 2.31 helped him to a 6-0 record in April. He worked 46.2 innings, striking out 50 hitters while walking 15. J.R. pitched a shutout as well. It's the 2nd time that the National League Pitcher of the Month award goes to Pittsburgh's pitcher Dan Petry. He started 4 games in April, going 3-0 and compiling an ERA of 1.13 in 24 innings. Dan fanned 23 hitters. Dan also fired a shutout.

The American League Batter of the Month award goes to Bill Madlock, Texas' starting second baseman. Madlock helped his team with an average of .386 and 19 RBI in 101 at bats. The National League Batter of the Month award goes to Willie Aikens, Los Angeles (N)'s starting first baseman. He had an on base percentage of .365 and hit .291, while driving in 35 runs.
Saturday 4/30/1986: Pittsburgh's Smalley III severely injured
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's shortstop Roy Smalley III will miss at least 4 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base. He began limping and then fell down, causing a scary moment for his teammates. He had to be carried off the field. After being taken to a local hospital, Smalley III was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Strained Anterior Cruciate Ligament. His season features a batting average of .211 (19 hits in 90 AB), one double, one triple and one longball. Smalley III collected 13 RBI and 4 runs as well.
Saturday 4/30/1986: John Montefusco fires 2-hitter against Chicago (N)
CHICAGO (N) - Atlanta's right-hander John Montefusco is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Chicago (N) found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Montefusco 1st shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 13th shutouts in his career. Montefusco (4-1) fanned 2 and walked 1, throwing 91 pitches. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.' Dale Murphy provided Atlanta with the offense Montefusco needed as he went 2 for 4, blasting a homerun, scoring 2 runs. The final score of the game was 2-0.
Thursday 4/28/1986: 6-hit performance by Pittsburgh's Mark T. McLemore
SAN DIEGO - Pittsburgh's second baseman Mark T. McLemore once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up San Diego's pitching staff with a 6 hit performance on Thursday. His 1st hit was a RBI double off Jim Deshaies in the 1st inning. A triple off Jeff Holly in the 5th inning, accounted for his 4th hit. He collected singles in the 2nd inning , in the 3rd (one RBI) , in the 7th inning (one RBI) and in the 9th inning . Mark T. did drive in 3 while scoring 3 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 26 hits in 77 at bats, resulting in a .338 batting average. Pittsburgh improved its record to 15-11, scoring 12 runs on 16 hits.

NEW YORK (N) - New York (N)'s right-hander Craig Swan will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against Chicago (N) on Tuesday. New York (N) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Swan had suffered a Torn Back Muscle. Craig has a record of 0-2 this season, with an ERA of 4.17. Tuesday 4/26/1986: Mickey Rivers collects 2000th hit against Kansas City
BOSTON - Boston's leftfielder Mickey Rivers already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. His hit in the 12th inning was a three run homerun off Don DeMola. His best year so far was 1980 where he hit .277 with 10 homeruns and 64 RBI. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Frost (2-0) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 1, throwing 111 pitches. George Brett helped Frost at the plate, he got 3 hits in 5 AB, stroking a double, with 2 RBI.
