Well Braves fans, this was one of the epic battles of the NLCS, this wasn't one the Braves coasted through like their previous WS appearances.
With Home field as an advantage, the Braves lost game 1, and pulled off game 2, giving home field to the Mets. On the Road, the Braves took game 3, 9-1 for their only offensive outburst of the series, followed by 2 more losses to the Mets. Heading home the Braves were down 2-3 with two games coming up at home. Prior to the playoffs the LAD coach had made an offhanded comment to the Braves Skipper, and he pulled Matlack out of the relief pen and had him start Game 6 instead of Fulgham setting up Robinson for a game 7 potential series decider. The plan worked perfectly and Matlack pitched a shutout and the Braves tied the series back up 3-3
Game 4 mr Cy Young winner came out and did what he did at home automatically as he had all season and pushed the Braves to the WS.
Matlack was asked after game 6 if it was great proving management wrong about being relegated to the bullpen to start the playoffs, to which he said "I live for this time of year, it's awesome to play all season long, but come playoffs I would play for free, so to me, this is money for nothing"
