The Los Angeles Dodgers are finally moving the fences after thirty years of playing with the same fences. New General Manager Matt Ward, formerly of the Montreal Expos and Dodgers ownership are excited. A year after missing the playoffs and watching the Houston Astros go wire to wire in the National League West, something had to change.
“Moving the fences, putting a new scoreboard down the left field line, and changing the culture is something we’re looking forward to as a team and organization” Matt Ward said alongside the Dodgers owner. “We have a great offensive team already.” Ward continued. “Along with a great pitching staff, we’re trying to build around them”
The pitching staff should definitely benefit from the fences being pushed back. 400 to the right centerfield gap is one of the deepest in baseball. Defense in the outfield will be a huge priority with that much room.
“We have a few options in centerfield, defense is key. There’s a few guys in the minor leagues already, they aren’t far from being to help out the big league club” Ward responded about being asked about who would be manning centerfield in the Los Angeles.
Considering where the Dodgers currently play is 59 years old. Ward was asked about building a potential new stadium.
“It’s something we really considered, we didn’t really get a lot of support with the city of Los Angeles. We’ll definitely revisit it in a few years, maybe the city will be more open to it” Ward said disappointed. “We’re really excited about moving the fences though. The guys are looking forward to seeing the new dimensions”
