The Cincinnati Reds are finally moving the fences after no changes to Crosley Field since it was built, some seventy years ago. New general managerr Matt Ward, formerly of the Montreal Expos and Los Angeles Dodgers, along with the new ownership group are ecstatic The Reds haven’t had a winning season since 1979, where they finished second. Success since then have been elusive. They’ve lost triple digit games the last five seasons. That cannot be acceptable with new owners and a new general manager.
The announcement was met with a ‘It’s about time’ by a fan wearing a paper bag over his face. The paper bags have been an all too familiar sight in recent years at Crosley. Most fans that make it to the ballpark have been less than thrilled with the product on the field. The disaster of the last the last seven seasons has taken a toll on the fan base.
The old owner was heavily disliked by fans after charging 11 dollar for ticket prices, especially for how poor the last few years. He was accused of being greedy. The new group that bought the team have said that won’t continue. After announcing that prices would drop to 7 dollars, ‘More of us in paper bags can show up now! I can bring my daughter, wife, and two brothers all clad in paper bags”
Can you blame fans for being pessimistic? The Reds drew the least amount of fans in all of baseball last season and lost 108 games. After the sale of the team along with a general manager, fans are hoping for the best, but expecting the same.
