Texas' pitcher Walt Terrell is the American League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in April. His record of 3-0 in 6 was among the leagues best this month. In 49 innings of work he allowed just 23 hits while striking out 34, compiling an ERA of just 0.73. Winner of this months National League Pitcher of the Month award is Pittsburgh's Dan Petry. San Diego's first baseman Tom Brunansky had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Batter of the Month. LOS ANGELES (N) - Great days are rare. But not for Pittsburgh's right-hander Dan Petry. Los Angeles (N) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 14th time he has done it in his career. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Petry (3-0) fanned 6 and walked 1, throwing 103 pitches. Fred McGriff helped Petry at the plate, he went 1 for 3. Pittsburgh scored 1 run on 6 hits.

TEXAS - It was one of baseball saddest days. Texas' right-hander Clay Kirby fell victim to a career ending injury in a game against California on Wednesday. He complained about pain after throwing a pitch to Doe Boyland, then suddenly collapsed. Torn Rotator Cuff Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. This season Kirby compiled an ERA of 3.96, going 2-0 in 5 starts. He fanned 18 while giving up 20 hits in 25 innings. His career featured a record of 203-144 with an ERA of 3.42. Baseball will certainly miss this great player.

BALTIMORE - Baltimore is without its right-hander Steve Ontiveros for at least 4-5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Mike Richardt in a game against Chicago (A). MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee's right-hander Paul Moskau will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against Toronto on Monday.
