TEXAS - Being hit with a pitch is no fun at all. Especially when you get injured. Texas' second baseman Bill Pecota will miss about 7 weeks after being hit by Terry Leach in the 6th inning of the game between Texas and Kansas City. Texas wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Pecota had suffered a Fractured Hand. Pecota has hit 17 longballs this year while batting .239. He adds 8 doubles, along with 37 runs scored. He's 9th in the American League in RBIs and 2nd in homeruns!
Monday 6/6/1987: Seattle's Ted Simmons gets milestone hit
MILWAUKEE - Ted Simmons got a standing ovation from 40561 fans in Milwaukee, who witnessed his 2000th career hit. His best year so far was 1985 where he hit .341 with 9 homeruns and 80 RBI. 'I guess I'll celebrate a bit today. But the most important thing is winning, and my whole career I gave everything I could to help my team.' He hit a single in the 2nd off Steve Shields for number 2000.
Monday 6/6/1987: Oakland's Rick Burleson laces 2000th career hit
CLEVELAND - Oakland's shortstop Rick Burleson already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. Along with his 2000 hits, Rick collected 219 homeruns and 1021 RBI in 12 seasons. 'My firends always told me that I will do it one day. I never believed it. Good that I was wrong!' His hit in the 9th inning was a two run homerun off Kirk McCaskill.
Monday 6/6/1987: San Francisco's O'Brien wins Player of the Week award
It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Kansas City's catcher Keith Moreland. He had an on base percentage of .455 and hit .429, while driving in 11 runs. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 7 games. Keith has gone 38 for 124 (.306) this season, hitting 8 homeruns and driving in 23 runs. He has scored 28 runs on his own. San Francisco's rightfielder Pete M. O'Brien had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Pete M. was on fire, hitting .632 with 1 HR and 4 RBI.

MINNESOTA - It was a great day for Chicago (A)'s right-hander David Cone. The 24-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Minnesota on Friday. 'I'll have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put all the right fingers down today.' Cone (2-8) struck out 8 and issued 3 BB, throwing 79 of 131 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for Chicago (A) was third baseman Koji Akiyama, he finished with 1 hit in 4 AB, homering once. The final score of the game was 4-0.
Friday 6/3/1987: Detroit's Terry Harper has great day with five hits
CALIFORNIA - 'Wow, five hits in one game is something special, isn't it?' said Detroit's leftfielder Terry Harper after the 31-6 win over California. In the 4th inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Craig McMurtry. His 5th hit, off Dan Morogiello in the 7th inning, was a GRAND SLAM and cleared the fence in left-center. He had singles in the 4th inning , in the 5th (one RBI) and in the 6th . Terry did drive in 7 while scoring 5 runs on his own. He is hitting .281 this season, with 10 HR and 47 RBI.
Wednesday 6/1/1987: Cleveland's Leonard severely injured
CLEVELAND - Cleveland's leftfielder Jeffrey Leonard will miss about 5 weeks after he hurt himself badly in the 9th inning of the game between Cleveland and Kansas City. He dove for a drive off the bat of Mel Hall, and immediately signaled that he's not OK after hitting the ground. Herniated Disc Back was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Leonard has hit for a .243 average this season. He has 29 extra base hits along with 101 total bases, resulting in a .481 slugging percentage.
