The American League's best player of the week was Texas' Walt Terrell, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 0.00 while going 2-0. He hurled a shutout as well. Walt has a record of 9-1 this season, with an ERA of 1.29. In 112 Innings he was able to strike out 82 batters. Walt has pitched 2 shutouts and 5 complete games. He's 1st in the American League in ERA and 3rd in wins! The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Philadelphia's Mike Gallego this time, as the second baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's third baseman Glenn Hubbard hurt himself in the 1st inning while making a routine throw to first base. He experienced serious pain and had to leave the game. Glenn Hubbard will miss at least 9 weeks. Fractured Elbow was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. He has hit 5 taters while batting .243 this season. His 53 hits and 28 walks add up to a .333 on-base percentage.

SEATTLE - Great days are rare. But not for Seattle's right-hander Jim Beattie. Minnesota found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 8th time he has done it in his career. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' Beattie (7-5) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking none, throwing 105 pitches. The hitting star for Seattle was second baseman Julio Franco, he collected 1 hit in 5 trips to the plate, blasting a homerun, and driving in 4 runs. The final score of the game was 6-0.

SEATTLE - Orel Hershiser took the mound and never left. And Minnesota hitters couldn't touch him at all. Seattle's right-hander gave up just one hit in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 7 career shutouts in 144 games started. Hershiser (8-2) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 1, throwing 99 pitches. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Ted Simmons helped Hershiser at the plate, he collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, hitting a homerun, with 4 RBI. Seattle scored 6 runs on 10 hits.
