Well HOFBBL fans, the journey to the promised land starts in earnest here.
The opening round is upon us.
NYY, KCR, SEA, and BOS have made it for the AL and ATL, LAD, SFG, and PIT for the NL
While NYY has been a juggernaut all season, they had a losing record vs SEA, and 6-5 vs KCR so while it looked like a sure lock for the Yanks, the reality is they are only 20-18 against the 3 teams that they might match up with.
NYY vs KCR: Regular season NYY won the series only 6-5, so while going into the game the Yanks would seem to be favored as they finished the season 19 games in front of the Royals, the reality could be sending the Yankies home early.
SEA vs BOS: This couldn't have been a worse draw for Seattle, as there is only one team they had a losing record against in the regular season, and it was Boston. If Seattle makes it out of the first round, they could be the favorite to make it to the WS.
In the NL there is no clear cut favorite in the post season, all four teams have excellent pitching, but the Braves have the most suspect offence, but tend to compensate for that with one of the best defenses out there.
LA vs SFG: With tying on the last day the SF/LA series has turned into a best of 6, where winning three times does not mean an auto advance into the NLCS. Head to head, the Dodgers hold the edge winning 9-6 on the season.
ATL vs PIT: Atlanta and the Pirates are loaded with amazing pitchers and have the two top contenders for the Cy Young award, with Fulgham for the Braves and Petry for the Pirates. If the Braves are to get past the Pirates, the edge for the Braves would Mr Close, Doug Corbett. The Braves won the regular season 8-7, but without a doubt, the Pirates have a more dangerous batting lineup. They finished the season hitting a full 10 points higher than the Braves, scoring 72 more runs, and 24 more HRs.
I know I wanna go back, listening to all these songs for the last couple seasons, my brother graduated in 85, and I followed in 87.
