Well Braves Fans, Joe decided to call it a career. When Skip came to town, Joe was the starting catcher, and he was a dang good guy behind the plate, and in the batters box, with his only weakness being an arm that might be able to throw out a little league base runner. Joe had a pretty good eye at the plate, hitting .300+ in 4 of his seasons as a Brave, and finished his major league career with a .289 batting average. Joe was on the bigs roster for 11 years, and after being supplanted for the catchers job by Steve Yeager in 79, he held his head up and was a great role model for all, playing 1st and C whenever an opportunity presented itself. His highwater years were 76 and 77, and he was part of the team that brought Atlanta back to the playoffs for the first time in a decade... coincidental the year he was drafted by the Braves. All of Atlanta should raise a glass to Joe, as he was the epitome of what it is to give to live for the post season. The #11 rock song of 87... So he was under contract for one more album, and he released probably one of his best albums ever, with a buddy of his playing bass on the album, that normally only played lead guitar... ironic that his son plays bass in his band now that Sam was kicked out of...
