Hey Braves fans, in a salute to a kid thrown to the wolves probably a year early, John went out and showed what a scrappy right hander from Michigan can do when given a chance. John went 10-11 as a 20 yr old rookie, getting 136K's in 183 innings, and even had a shutout. For the season he had a 4.37 era which based on what he showed as the season went on should dramatically drop as his career continues. Skip was heard saying he hopes to have him when he celebrates his 30th year at the helm in 2007. One could say Smoltz is just learning to fly as a top flight MLB pitcher and the # 9 rock song from 87, one of the 3 bands I regret never seeing live:
