Well Baseball fans here we are at the halfway mark.
Leading into the allstar weekend the Braves were hot again going 5-1 to wrap up hoffbl's 89 1st half team. It use to be they were hotest closing out the season, however the last few years they just kinda sputtered into the playoffs.
Atlanta sent 4 players to the allstar game, with two of them that would make the team of the 80, with closer Doug Corbett in his 7th (6th of the 80's) and 2b Julio Cruz making 8th appearance (7th of the 80's and first with Atlanta).
To round out the 4 are the young gun phonemes Maddux and Smoltz, with Maddux in his second straight and Smoltz in his first ever.
One of the comments coming out of the weekend that this reporter noticed was the Jays GM mentioning 6 teams in the AL are fighting for 1 wildcard spot making 9 total with a fighting chance of getting in at this point.
The same cannot be said for the NL, where you have your top 3, and then 2 others that still are looking good for post season play.
NYY continue to be hot and have increased their lead to 4 games, and the east still has 4 teams above .540 winning which right now looks to be striking distance of getting into the post season.
the White Sox have road a 5 game winning streak into 2nd place and trail KC by 1. The Brew Crew slid back from 1 game out to 2 games out and now are in 3rd in the Central.
Texas just keeps on rolling in the West, though the west side of the Bay area refuses to go away.
Over in the NL hot Lanta has been just that and is currently in the driver's seat even though the Mets have the second best record in the NL.
the Pirates and the Cards continue to duke it out in what has been the most fluid battle in the majors this year, and has all the makings of staying the race to watch.
No idea what happened in LA with all the talent they have, but SFran finally got it together and has continued to walk away.
Boston managed to open up it's lead for Chipper to two games again.
and the #49 rock song of 89....
