With 24 games left in the season 89 is starting to really come down to the wire.
Chicago has continued to pore on the gas and seperate from the Royals that lead the Central for the entire first half of the season, and now the AL Central is starting to look like the Brew Crew and the Royals are destined to be sitting at home this postseason.
Texas has wrapped up at least a 500 season, and has enlarged their lead to 10 games shrinking their magic number to 15.
The AL East is the closest division in the AL with the NYY leading the Jays by 5 and the Orioles by 8, with it all but said and done that 2 of the aforementioned teams will make the October dance, with one left at home like a teenager not invited to prom.
The NL East likewise is a shoe in to send 2 teams to the dance, though with 24 to go, it seems highly unlikely the Mets have a chance of taking out the Braves from taking the East for the 4th straight year.
The NL Central is where the jilted prom team will come from as the Birds and Pirates are still just separated by a game, alas, the Pirates just had a huge blow handed to them as the Crime Dog has gone down with a season ending injury. Pitt still has the more dominant pitching, but will that be enough to carry them to cause a repeat of 88 with the same four teams making the dance from the NL?
San Fran has a 21 game lead with a 4 game magic number, only the most epic pennant race collapse would see them not make the postseason.
In sad news, Boston mourns the passing of Tim Tuefel, as earlier today a newspaper out of Milwaukee reported that his team doctor announced his death.
the # 38 rock song of 89
Always a fan favorite, every time I saw them other than 87 since it wasn't out yet, the song I'll be singing along to (along with many others on feb 22)...
