Thursday 9/22/1989: California's Vinny Castilla has great day with five hits
SEATTLE - 'Wow, five hits in one game is something special, isn't it?' said California's second baseman Vinny Castilla after the 9-6 win over Seattle. His 1st hit, a solo homerun off Mark W. Davis in the 2nd inning, landed an estimated 365 feet from home plate. A double off Bob Welch in the 11th inning accounted for his 4th hit. A pitch from Mark Riggins in the 13th inning left his bat for a three-run homerun, landing 372 feet from home plate in right-center. He collected singles in the 7th inning and in the 9th . Vinny did drive in 4 while scoring 2 runs on his own. He is hitting .255 this season, with 18 HR and 69 RBI.

Sunday 9/18/1989: Victor Cruz out for full season
BALTIMORE - Baltimore's right-hander Victor Cruz experienced probably the worst case scenario for a pitcher, a season ending injury. After pitching in the 4th inning of the game against Toronto, Cruz complained about serious pain in his throwing arm. He had to leave the game. Baltimore wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Cruz had suffered a Torn Back Muscle. Victor has a record of 7-1 this season, with an ERA of 3.02. In 44.2 Innings he was able to strike out 40 batters.
Friday 9/16/1989: Boston has no chance in a 1-hitter by Ralph Citarella
BOSTON - Seattle's right-hander Ralph Citarella is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Boston on just one hit. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 3rd time he has done it in his career. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when Lyman Bostock singled with one out in the 5th inning. Citarella (12-8) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 4. 'Today I just felt fine. I had a good feeling while warming up.' Mike D. Young provided Seattle with the offense Citarella needed as he got 2 hits in 4 AB, hitting a homerun, stroking a double, scoring two runs. The final score of the game was 5-0.
