The divisions have all been won, and seven of 8 are ready to go. All eyes today the 1st of October are focused on first, Milwaukee, and then maybe, just maybe, the game in Kansas City will take center stage.
With a game separating them, the Orioles need Toronto to lose and then they need to win to force a 1 game playoff. If tonight Toronto wins, they are in, if the Orioles lose to KC, Toronto is in.
In the NL all 4 teams are the same as last year With San Fran from the West, Pittsburg representing the Central after staving off the second half of the season run by the Cards, and again the Braves and Mets coming out of the East.
Only the Yankees are returning from the AL, with all the other teams having not seen postseason in a while, if ever. NYY and CWS both have numerous postseason births, however the White Sox haven't been there since their 79-81 run.
Texas is making their first ever appearance, and Baltimore and Toronto have only 1 a piece, so end result, the Yanks and Sox have the experience, will it be enough against the upstart kids looking for their first postseason glory?
It looked like the Braves were going to back into the playoffs after going 2-6, setting up an early out, however the loss to the Cubs 1-2 in 10, Matlack was heard to say in the locker room, "if you think the other teams are just gonna roll over cause you have 100 wins and we won it all last year, well you might as well not pack any bags for traveling in the playoffs" After that night the Braves went on a 7 game streak, in an effort to get into sync before the playoff start.
