So the Chicago freight train was finally derailed by the AL East, as over the span of 5 games, the East beat up on them 4-1 after the season record long 17 win streak. Chicago got number 17 at the hands of the Blue Jays, then the Blue jays took the next two. The Indians followed that up by taking 2 out of 3. Chicago still leads the AL Central by a comfortable margin, and the 2-4 week is likely to be one of their few losing weeks this season.
Out in the AL East, it's roll Blue Jays Roll, and they have got within a game of the AL Lead while having a 7 game lead on Cleveland for the East pennant. Cleveland is still sitting pretty for their chances of seeing postseason success, trailing the WC by just a game. While still early in the season, if things don't start changing fast, the Jays will cruise to a easy division win.
Seattle seems to have shaken the post season hangover of last season, and now is just a game back of the Angels. The Angels started the season 12-3 and have just been a tad above 500 since going 17-16 over the last 33 games. Rumor has it they are looking for either a top rated pitcher or might look to add a hired gun for some more offence.
The West is one of two divisions with all teams above 500.
Over in the NL, things are getting strange in the Central, the new Pirates after going 6-1 last week hit a slide and ended this week on a four game skid, however not to be outdown, the Cards ended the week on a five game skid. Something tells me we haven't seen the end of the division see sawing between St Louis and Pittsburgh.
Out in the West, the story is the same ol story as it has been since 2 years ago when after couple months the Giants pulled away from the Dodgers and have never looked back. LA was looking to make a run with the addition of Petry, however their number 2 guy Sid went down for 8 weeks and was moved to the bullpen to nurse his pulled bicep, leaving the 3, 4, and 5 to have to move into a 4 man rotation as 2, 3, and 4.
The Braves answered the Mets 6 game win streak with one of their own, and one the back of it, have extended their lead to 6 games over the Mets. Like the AL West, the NL East has all teams still above 500, and currently the top 3 WC contending teams are also all in the East.
Seattle is looking like they were geniuses for getting O'Brien for the cost of signing him, as he is leading all of baseball a quarter point off of 400, at .375, which he also has translated into the best OPS of 1.007.
Winters of Toronto continues to lead everyone with putting the ball out of the park with 13.
The current king of RBIs is Ricky Henderson for the white Sox, with 43... and in the AL the number 2 and 3 in RBIs are also on the White Sox
After 48 games, only one team has scored 100 more runs than they have allowed, though a couple more are closing in on that.
Over in Milwaukee, S Shields is just piling on the K's, and even if the famed pitch prognosticator AJ Finch was telling batters what was coming, Shields would still strike them out. He's so good, that when the batter walks away in disgust by striking out on something wicked Shields will say "thank you, come again"
