Coming of the Giants first HOFFBL championship expectations are high. Even after a nice start to the season, a rare result for these G-Men, lots of moves were made. Blessed with a nice core of young players, Giants management wont rest on their laurels. In the offseason they traded key components to the title run. Rex Hudler, Brian Denman and John Denny were all huge parts to the championship season, but they were moved for assets and salary space to make more moves. Dennis Eckersley was signed to replace Denny. The assets received for Hudler and Denman were shipped with other assets for Scott Garrelts. Then in an even bigger move George Brett, Darryl Strawberry and Paul Asenmacher, all key acquisitions last year, were moved together for Kirby Puckett.
Dennis Eckersley
Eckersley hasnt had much success in the win column yet but hes pitching well. 78% oh his starts have been quality and his WHIP is 1.09. He has been jettisoned to the bullpen momentarily but more because hes needed there and less because hes pitching poorly.
Scott Garrelts
Garrelts had been a target of Giants management for years. This year he has been lights out. 7 wins, a sub 1.5 ERA and a WHIP well below 1. He's also only 28 so the future is bright.
Kirby Puckett
Last but not least is Puckett. An absolute star in HOFFBL his acquisition was probably the most surprising. Adding him to an offensive core that includes Barry Bonds and Will Clark upset some around the league. Puckett was moved right into CF and the middle of the lineup. So far his OPS is over .850 and hes already near 10 homeruns and 10 stolen bases.
The Giants arent done yet. With the trade deadline approaching the phone lines are lighting up and more moves will be made. Plus the recently finished the plans for a stadium remodel.
