The rough start to the season continued in the month of May with the Brewers going 12-16 to end the month with an overall record of 21-34. It is hard to pinpoint one area to blame for the sub par start as both the bats and the pitching has been suspect. An example of when it rains, it pours came when the newly acquired Bill Landrum was hurt in his first appearance by a stray liner. On the flip side of the coin recently acquired starter Rick Aguilera recorded two wins in his first two starts and a quality start in each outing. A return to form by the likes of 1989 All Star Ken Dixon, RF Ron Roenicke and steady SS Kelly Heath could very well be the key to this season turning around or spinning out of control.

Rookie Report Outfielder Jose Canseco looked to take a step forward in May. The young slugger flashed his power by swatting 6 homers. He also showed an improving batting eye drawing more walks and cutting down on his strikeouts from the month prior.
One has to wonder how much longer the Brewers can run Tino Martinez out there in the line up each day. The young first baseman has yet to homer, struggled to make contact and looked in over his head in the month of May. His bat is bound to run into the ball for his first homerun soon but it'll take more than that to get his season on track.
