Well Braves fans 2 months in, this may be thee most talented team we've seen here in Atlanta in a long long time, and is looking from top to bottom, better than any team of the 80s.
Atlanta has always been one of the best teams for over a decade now, when it comes to pitching, and thus far through 2 months, this year is no different.
As a team, they lead the league in:
What has changes are the bats:
two months in and there are 3 guys hitting over 300, as a team they are tied for 2nd in the NL for batting average, with one of the guys leading all NL batters.
While the team as a whole is about humility and making sure everyone eats some humble pie, you can tell there is some growing excitement in the clubhouse as to if this team is even better than the Seaver / Jackson team of 81.
The guys in the clubhouse all think Smoltzie was robbed on pitcher of the month for May since he was 6-0 and only gave up more than a run in one of the 6 games, and included a shutout.
After starting out slow, and looking like age was starting to be a factor, Corbett has been 6 for 6 in save opportunities since May 20th, a span of 12 games, after only having 11 save in the first 44 games.
One of the biggest surprises this season is the guy Skip replaced Richards in RF with. Many questioned the wisdom of letting Javier start over Richards in RF a couple seasons ago, but apparently in private Skip was saying, "just watch" and now everyone is going ga ga over Javier and wondering how coach knew it was a sure thing. He's currently batting .314 and is 3rd on the team with 20 stolen bases.
Hoping at least Texas gets the song humor from the title and imbedded in the article
and the #69 rock song of 90... while I love the memory lane these videos provides, it also is really hard revisiting the past sometimes... miss ya bro!
