Tuesday 6/7/1990: Orel Hershiser pitches his 3rd shutout of the season
CLEVELAND - Orel Hershiser took the mound and never left. And Cleveland hitters couldn't touch him at all. Seattle's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 3rd shutout of the season. He now has 15 career shutouts in 242 games started. Hershiser (8-4) struck out 2 and walked 1, throwing 53 of 86 pitches for strikes. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' The hitting star for Seattle was first baseman Pete M. O'Brien, he finished 3 for 5. Seattle scored 4 runs on 9 hits.
Monday 6/6/1990: Justice and Brouhard win Player of the Week award
David Justice from California wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. He hit .471 with 8 RBI and slugged 1.235 in 17 at bats. Atlanta's third baseman Mark Brouhard had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. He hit .524 with 6 RBI and slugged .857 in 21 at bats. This year Brouhard drove in 39 and scored 32 runs while batting .305 with 10 bombs.
Saturday 6/4/1990: Rob Deer parks three against Boston
NEW YORK (A) - Rob Deer was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered New York (A) to a 15-1 win over Boston by homering three times. His 1st blast, a solo homerun off Greg Swindell in the 4th inning, landed an estimated 452 feet from home plate. A 347 foot drive to right field marked his 2nd bomb, a two-run homerun off Greg Swindell in the 5th inning. Number 3 in the 6th inning, a shot estimated at 371 feet, cleared the wall in right field. Overall he got 3 hits in 5 AB, with three runs scored and driving in 5 runs. In 4179 career at bats, he has hit 166 homeruns and collected 652 RBI.
