Chicago Cubs General Manager Matt Andersen confirmed today that Stan Hack will not be back to lead the club in 1957. Andersen clearly struggled with the decision as could be seen with his tone at the news conference announcing the decision. "It's tough" said Andersen. "Stan has always been a fan favorite here. For 16 years as a player he was what exemplified being a Chicago Cub. We really wanted this to work. He wanted it to work.............but at the end of the day............it's about results, and we just feel like it's time to go a different direction. We know we're not yet where we want to be as an organization, but we really had much higher aspirations this year with the infusion of talent that we brought in and the kids we had coming up. It just didn't result in the amount of wins that we thought it should. We've got a very young club and will likely be even younger next year. Stan has certainly helped the hitters, but our pitching has just really struggled, so we're hoping that maybe a different voice will help our pitching staff reach their full potential." It's been rumored that Bob Scheffing, Lou Warneke and Claude Passeau are the top choices of Andersen to be the next Cubs manager. Hack ends his Cubs career with a 159-302 record over 3 seasons.
