Monday 6/13/1990: Atlee Hammaker (KCR) will miss 4-5 weeks
KANSAS CITY - When it rains, it pours. Kansas City's southpaw Atlee Hammaker will not pitch for at least 4-5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Minnesota where he left the field in the 4th inning. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Herniated Disc Back. This season Hammaker compiled an ERA of 2.81, going 4-3 in 12 starts. He fanned 27 while giving up 75 hits in 67.1 innings. Atlee has pitched one shutout and one complete game.
Monday 6/13/1990: Jack Clark stars with 2000th career hit
TORONTO - Jack Clark got a standing ovation from 43734 fans in Toronto, who witnessed his 2000th career hit. With two outs in the 1st inning, Jack drilled a single, causing a standing ovation from the crowd. Along with his 2000 hits, Jack collected 254 homeruns and 1039 RBI in 12 seasons. 'Wow. That is all I can say now. I'm thrilled.'

The American League Player of the Week award goes to Orel Hershiser, one of Seattle's best starting pitchers. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 0.00 while going 2-0. He pitched two shutouts! The National League's best player of the week was Atlanta's Stan Javier, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Stan went 17 for 31 (.548), while hitting 2 HR and collecting 5 RBI.
Sunday 6/12/1990: Scott Sanderson blanks Houston with a 1-hitter
HOUSTON - New York (N)'s right-hander Scott Sanderson is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Houston on just one hit. It's his 4th shutout this season, and the 25th time he has done it in his career. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' Sanderson (9-3) struck out 4 and walked 3, throwing 58 of 111 pitches for strikes. Vance Law provided New York (N) with the offense Sanderson needed as he got 2 hits in 3 AB, hitting a double. New York (N) improved its record to 41-25, scoring 1 run on 6 hits.
Saturday 6/11/1990: Wally Joyner (BAL) will miss full season
BALTIMORE - Baltimore's third baseman Wally Joyner will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Baltimore and Minnesota. The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Joyner collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Torn Abdominal Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. Wally is hitting .299 this year, with 63 hits in 211 at bats. He has driven in 18 runs, slugging .436.
