Well what looked like a done deal just a scant week ago is again a contested division. The Cards in never say never fashion have closed the gap on the realing Pirates, and the NL Central is back to just 3 games separating the two top teams. Backup right fielder Wright for the Pirates went down with a season ending injury, and the baseball world wonders if that could be the straw that breaks the Pirates.
Over in the East, the front running Braves decided to put on a baseball clinic in route to a 8 game winning streak, blowing their lead wide open to double digits and they are now 11 up on the WC position leading Mets. The one guy not enjoying success on the team this year is CF Murphy who just can't seem to get going.
The Giants are still the Giants and at this rate should have the West wrapped up by September 1st. The Dodgers though are finally showing signs of life and have won 7 of their last 10.
California went out and got Jim Rice as their new DH replacing Spikes who just seems like his days in baseball have come to an end. With the injection of Rice the Angels had quite the week and now lead the AL West by 7 games. Oakland has slipped under 500, leaving the NL East as the only division with all teams above 500.
Detroit's band of youngsters is continuing their climb and is now tied with Texas for the 4th best record in the AL, however they still have a long way to catch up to the first place Sox that enjoy a 9 game lead in the Central.
Toronto remains on top in the East with the best record in the AL. With the recent addition of Kevin Brown from the Reds, the best team in the AL just got better. After a couple quite weeks Winters caim back alive and now leads the majors in homers again with 20. Winters also has the most RBIs with 61.
Perennial Mr Clutch after a very slow start to the 90's campaign is now leading everyone with 23 saves. Seems Corbett does have some mojo left.
Not only is Henderson leading the league in stolen bases with 40, but two of his teammates hold the number 2 and 3 spots in all of baseball. These guys are running out of their Sox.
the #50 rock song of 90
