Holy cow look at the Cards go! This past week they swept the Pittsburgh Titanics... I mean Pirates, and after going 9-1 over their last 10 they have a double digit lead in the Central! Looking like they are finally healthy behind stud pitchers M. Madden (no relation to the cursed beat writer J. Madden) and Fernando Valenzuela they are seeming to start to hit their stride. Elder statesman of the staff D. Smith is also making his presence felt whenever he takes the mound, is tied with Madden for the team lead in wins and is second to only Madden in ERA.
Out in the West, the Giants continue a lackluster start of the second half of the season, and now have the 3rd best record in the NL, behind 2 teams from the East. If they continue like they are playing, they will certainly give up home field advantage for the 1st round to the Cards. The Dodgers couldn't keep their momentum going this week, and now have dropped back a game from Phili and Montreal trying to chase down the Mets for a WC position, and now actually have a better chance of chasing down the Giants to get into the playoffs.
In the East, the Braves and Mets keep on winning, however the Mets trail the Braves by 12 games.
Seattle took 3 out of 4 from Cali, and now the AL West is as tight as (insert crude joke) and we finally have a pennant race in HOFFBL. Can Seattle with their staff of studs finally regain their position of top dawg after a season removed? Texas after having a breakout season, is somehow not playing anywhere near the levels of last year. Right now, the West is looking like being the division to sent 2 teams to the playoffs for the first time in.... maybe forever. Has the AL West ever had 2 teams make it?
Out in the AL East, the Jays continue to lead the AL in wins, and are on cruise control, even without former potential MVP Winters. Cleveland is still on the rise though, and refuses to be shut out of the Playoff talk, going 7-3 over the last 10 and is only 3 games out of a WC spot. Baltimore is still in disbelief wondering how one of the most talented teams in baseball could be sitting a game below .500, 101 games in.
In the Central, the Sox went just 3-3 for the week, but still have the 3rd best record in all of Baseball. Their chokehold on the Central is with dominance and they will not go quietly. Detroit had a mediocre week and now is 7 games back in the WC hunt.
Will Clark from the Giants leads all with a .974 OPS
The speed demons of the Sox again have the top 3 spots for steals in the AL
Mike Paxon for the Mets leads all SP with a 1.45 ERA
While the site I use for rankings doesn't have this, it most def was one of the best rock songs of 1990...
All guitar wannabees know it.
