SEATTLE - Seattle is without its lefty Mark W. Davis for at least 4-5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Sixto Lezcano in a game against Baltimore. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being taken to a local hospital, Davis was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Spasms Back. His ERA of 2.40 helped him to a 12-5 record this year. He struck out 146 and walked 72 in 169 innings. Mark W. has pitched 2 shutouts and 3 complete games. CHICAGO (A) - When it rains, it pours. Chicago (A)'s right-hander Bob Walk will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Oakland where he left the field in the 1st inning. After being taken to a local hospital, Walk was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Inflamed Rotator Cuff Muscle. Bob has a record of 17-5 this season, with an ERA of 1.95. In 198.1 Innings he was able to strike out 141 batters. Bob has pitched 2 shutouts and 8 complete games. He's 2nd in the American League in ERA and 2nd in wins!

Seattle's pitcher Orel Hershiser had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Hershiser was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.00. Along the way he struck out 10 in 18 innings. He pitched two shutouts! Atlanta's first baseman Bob Horner had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. He hit .400 with 15 RBI and slugged .767 in 30 at bats. Horner has hit for a .254 average this season. He has 55 extra base hits along with 214 total bases, resulting in a .513 slugging percentage. He's 2nd in the National League in RBIs and 1st in homeruns!
Sunday 8/14/1990: Rafael Palmeiro socks five hits for Cincinnati
PHILADELPHIA - Rafael Palmeiro is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. Hit number 2 followed in the 5th inning, a triple. A pitch from Pete Ladd in the 8th inning left his bat for a three-run homerun, landing 433 feet from home plate in right-center. He collected singles in the 2nd , in the 6th (one RBI) and in the 9th inning . Rafael did drive in 4 while scoring 3 runs on his own. He is hitting .261 this season, with 17 HR and 61 RBI. Cincinnati improved its record to 41-76, scoring 15 runs on 19 hits.
Friday 8/12/1990: Paul Gibson (SEA) will miss full season
SEATTLE - Seattle's left-hander Paul Gibson will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against Minnesota on Friday. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Torn Back Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. In 23 starts this year Paul struck out 90 batters in 134 innings of work. KANSAS CITY - When it rains, it pours. Kansas City's right-hander Len Barker will not pitch for at least 8 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco's second baseman Robby Thompson will miss at least 5 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base.
