The weekly wrap up is back, and not much has changed in baseball since the last report.
Toronto continues to batter the AL had has a comfortable cushion for home field throughout the AL Pennant. Even as dominant as the Jays have been, if you added their and Bostons records together a team avg those wins would still be in last place in the AL East (.440 to NYY .444) Boston is flirting with having the worst record ever, and no matter what after this season will own 3 of the 4 worst records ever. This will be Bostons 4th season with fewer than 40 wins, all since 1980. Cleveland continues to hold the wildcard position with a slim 1 game lead over Seattle.
Speaking of Seattle, they have closed in on the Angels, thanks in part to a 5 game skid at the hands of the White Sox and the Tigers. If California doesn't right their ship soon, they may lose control of the West, that they have led since opening day, and their destiny.
Ove in the Central, the White Sox are once again on fire. Winning 10 straight, just cutting through anyone they face. Currently they have 3 pitchers with 17+ wins, and have the 3 SP with the lowest ERA in the AL, all three sub 2.00. Not to be outdone by the pitching they have the #2 guy in the chase for the top batting avg, the top guy in RBIs and runs, and the top 3 base stealers in the AL. Detroit hasn't given up on their chance for postseason glory and is only 2 games back from the wildcard hunt.
The NL East, the Braves continue to lead the division, showing an offence like they have never had in the 13 years the current GM and manager have been in town. The Mets continue to have a stranglehold on the WC with an 8 game lead over the Dodgers.
St Louis continues to be the feel good story of the league, after looking like they had no chance, management righted the ship and now they are slowly walking away from the Pirates. If something doesn't change soon, Pittsburgh will not defend the Central Pennant.
Out West, the Giants keep rolling, but also are somewhat of an enigma, as on paper they should be challenging the Braves for homefield in the playoffs. Maybe they are doing a regular season hustle, and will plow through everyone when it matters like they did last year.
