After what was looking to be a snoozefest heading down the wire finally there is a storyline to write about.
In the AL West, we have a barnburner going on, Cali just ripped off 9 straight, unfortunately for the Seattle has been just as hot and still has a one game lead after both teams went 6-0 last week. Cali is now in the driver seat for the WC position as they have a 3 game lead on the Tribe. Seattle looks to have a leg up for clinching the west as only 10 of their final 24 games are against teams with winning records where the Angles have 13.
In the Central, the Sox magic number is 9, but it would take a collapse of epic proportion for Detroit to catch the Sox for the pennant. Detroit has also all but faded out of the WC hunt, now 9 games back. Chicago is on cruise control just waiting for Walk to come back. He is day to day, but it looks like the coach is going to just let him rest till he is 100% and have a couple warm up games before the start of the playoffs. The only question really of interest in the Central now is, will the Brew Crew finish over 500 this season to keep their streak alive?
Over in the East, the Yankees went from 100+ wins to hasbeens, and the Jays are now ruling the roost. The Tribes 4 game skid has them on the outside looking in for a chance at the WC. With 24 games left, there is a lot of baseball to go, but their path forward is quite daunting with 15 games left against teams above 500.
Onto the NL, where the Braves will be the first team to clinch a pennant in all likelihood. With only needing a single win, or a Mets loss, and the division will be theirs again for the 12th time since BrianH came to town. The Mets have been in a sort of slide, having the 5th best record in baseball not long ago, they've fallen off to be tied for the 8th best. All teams in the East are still above 500, and the NL East will win best division in baseball for a 2nd straight year.
The Central is all red, as in the color of the red birds that are the Cardinals. While there magic number is 14 with 24 to go, there is no hope for Pittsburgh to claim the Central again. The real question is about next year and the rumors that the expansion Rockies are trying to hire the Cubs manager. What will that mean for the team?
The Giants are rolling and should clinch the West this upcoming week. Rumor has it, reporter J Madden was seen near Candlestick Park trying to get an interview with Will Clark, but was recognized by a couple local cops, and arrested on charges of trespassing. While this beat reporter has yet to confirm, but rumor has it J Madden has been banned from all ballparks for fear he will proclaim someone as an MVP candidate and post their picture on the cover of his magazine "Madden Baseball". If the rumor is true, he was taken to the airport and given a one way ticket to Chicago.
the #22 rock song of 90...
I actually saw MSG in concert, the bassist from Vixen, Schenker, Gunn from LA Gunn, and the drummer from Ratt did a side project called COntraband, so LA Gunn and Schenker did a tour together and had Contraband along. Unfortunately for me, the lead singer got shitfaced and threw up on stage after one song and that was it.. MSG was pretty good, but LA Gunn's put on a hell of a show.
