The 1990 season is just about over and here is where we stand.
The Braves wrapped up their division first, and were followed by the Giants, Blue Jays Cardinals, and White Sox in short order.
Things are looking good for Seattle to reclaim the West crown after falling by the wayside last year with now a 3 game lead over the Angels with 9 games to go.
It would take a complete meltdown for Seattle not to make it in, as they have a 5 game lead over the Tribe, but the WC shall be interesting as the Angels only have a 2 game lead over the same Tribe. The WC in the AL is the one thing that could go down to the wire, as Seattle still has an easier schedule than Cali.
Seattle and Chicago currently have the only 20 game winners in the AL, but there are a host of players with 19 so it will be interesting to see how many 20 game winners there will be.
Over in the NL after starting the season with a 20 game winning streak, Atlantas Smoltz has lost 3 of his last 7. During the same stretch, John also has posted his best ERA of the season, which is making the coaching staff nervous that the offence is reverting back to old times.
Also in Atlanta, Corbett crossed the 50 save barrier, which now has been done 5 time in league history. What's notable is, of the 5 times, 3 belong to Corbett. The other 2 were Orosco for the Dodgers and Roberge for the Expos. Currently the all time single season save list is Corbett 1st (56 / 56), Orosco 3rd (55), Roberge 4th (52), and Corbett 5th (51).
Will Clark continues his onslaught against opposing pitchers, making even the most elite pitcher look silly. He is currently 1st in batting avg, OPS, runs scored, and 3rd in HR. Right now the fight is on for the 3rd pick with the Twins and Reds fighting to get it.
The Centennial club currently holds Atlanta, Toronto, San Fran, and the White Sox look to be a shoe in to join them, will anyone else get there?
Boston needs 4 wins to not earn the distinction of being the only team with 2 sub 30 win seasons, but wrapped up the number one pick weeks ago.
Milwaukee is now 3 games above 500, and looking to keep their streak alive of winning seasons. It hasn't been since 1973 when they finished 81-81 that they haven't had a winning season. The next longest current is Atlanta dating to 1979, and then the Cards going back to 1980. If they hold on they will break the tie they have with California in the AL for most consecutive seasons above 500 (69-84) of 16. The all time record though is held by the LA Dodgers, with 26 consecutive winning seasons.
the #15 rock song of 90 is....
Need to find my CD because I swear his brother Ronnie (38 special) helped out on guitar, but can't find anything about it.
