Saturday 10/1/1990: Tom Henke quiets San Francisco bats with shutout
PITTSBURGH - Tom Henke took the mound and never left. And San Francisco hitters couldn't touch him at all. Pittsburgh's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 2nd shutout of the season. He now has 7 career shutouts in 226 games started. Henke (12-12) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 2. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' The hitting star for Pittsburgh was second baseman Spike Owen, he finished with 1 hit in 5 AB, homering once, with 2 RBI. Pittsburgh scored 5 runs on 11 hits.

SAN DIEGO - On Saturday, San Diego's first baseman John Jaha displayed his sensational ability to handle the bat against Cincinnati, punishing their pitchers with five hits. A 357 foot drive to left field marked his 2nd hit, a solo homerun off Floyd Youmans in the 3rd inning. A pitch from Floyd Youmans in the 5th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 361 feet from home plate in left field. He had singles in the 1st (one RBI) , in the 6th and in the 8th inning . John scored 3 runs, and he collected 3 RBI as well! His 5 hit performance increases his batting average to .229. The final score of the game was 16-4.
