Welcome to the inaugural edition of What's Brewing for the 1991 Milwaukee Brewers. The Brew Crew have hit the ground running this season starting out 16-11 for the month of April. There is no real stand out statistic or category one could point to for the solid start other than good team efforts night in, night out. In the line up the new Brewers Otis Nixon has returned the type of speed and base stealing threat Milwaukee fans had become accustom to during the recently retired Dave Collins reign atop the line up card.
Brewers Batter of the Month
Mark Parent .270 BA 4HR 18RBI .835 OPS. Edging out Robin Yount
Brewers Pitcher of the Month
Kevin Tapani 4-1 2.79ERA 5BB 23K 42IP
Rookie Watch
The only rookie to break camp with the club this season is infield utility man Jeff Branson. Branson takes over this role for the departed Jose Baez who departed for St. Louis as a free agent. While he is not the walk and an on base guy Baez was, Branson projects out as more of a contact hitter than the man he replaces and brings a bit of youth to the bench.
Countdown to 3000 Robin Yount began the season with 2832 hits and a rabid fan base cheering him on in his race to join the 3000 hit club. With April in the books Yount has took an chunk out of the remaining amount he needs by adding 27 hits. Current total: 2859 Remaining : 141 Projected achievement: Mid September
