CLEVELAND - Jay Buhner powered Seattle to a 11-0 win over Cleveland. He did it in style by homering three times. His 1st blast, a two-run homerun off Terry Mulholland in the 1st inning, landed an estimated 395 feet from home plate. His 2nd shot, off Terry Mulholland in the 5th inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in right field. A 416 foot drive to left field marked his 3rd bomb, a two-run homerun off Tim Wakefield in the 6th inning. Overall he stroked 4 hits in 5 AB, scoring FOUR runs and collecting 6 RBI. In 1668 career at bats, he has hit 66 homeruns and collected 263 RBI.
Wednesday 6/15/1991: Jeff Peterek pitches his 2nd shutout of the season
TORONTO - Great days are rare. But not for California's right-hander Jeff Peterek. Toronto found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 4th time he has done it in his career. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' Peterek (7-4) fanned 5 and walked 3, throwing 102 pitches. California's second baseman Vinny Castilla got 1 hit in 4 AB. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Peterek. The final score of the game was 2-0.
Tuesday 6/14/1991: St. Louis has no chance in a 2-hitter by Greg Maddux
ATLANTA - Atlanta's right-hander Greg Maddux is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking St. Louis on just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 18th time he has done it in his career. Maddux (9-2) struck out 4 and walked 2, throwing 63 of 105 pitches for strikes. 'Today I just felt fine. I had a good feeling while warming up.' Atlanta's second baseman Alan Wiggins got 2 hits in 4 AB, with 2 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Maddux. The final score of the game was 4-0.
Tuesday 6/14/1991: San Francisco's Williams severely injured
SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco's season took a blow when Matt D. Williams suffered a serious injury in the game against Cincinnati. He hurt his arm throwing a strike to first base. Williams will probaby miss 7 weeks. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Pulled Rotator Cuff Muscle. This year Williams drove in 15 and scored 20 runs while batting .182 with 6 taters.
Monday 6/13/1991: Los Angeles (N)'s Dykstra wins Player of the Week award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Joe Carter, Chicago (A)'s starting centerfielder. He hit .483 with 8 RBI and slugged .931 in 29 at bats. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 8 game hitting streak right now. Los Angeles (N)'s leftfielder Lenny Dykstra had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. He had an on base percentage of .600 and hit .520, while driving in 7 runs. Dykstra has hit for a .326 average this season. He has 37 extra base hits along with 134 total bases, resulting in a .583 slugging percentage. He's 4th in the National League in batting and 1st in RBI!
Sunday 6/12/1991: Darryl Hamilton out for 9 weeks
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis' rightfielder Darryl Hamilton hurt himself in the 7th inning while diving for a batted ball. He got up slowly and had to leave the game. Darryl Hamilton will miss at least 9 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Broken Ribs. Surgery will be performed next week. His season features a batting average of .290 (38 hits in 131 AB), 3 doubles, no triples and 2 homeruns. Hamilton collected 17 RBI and 17 runs as well.

BOSTON - Chicago (A)'s Rickey Henderson showed a smile on his face after he got his 2000th career hit against Boston on Thursday. With no outs in the 6th inning, Rickey drilled a single, causing a standing ovation from the crowd. Along with his 2000 hits, Rickey collected 204 homeruns and 916 RBI in 14 seasons. 'It's hard to believe that I did it. I want to thank my family, my friends and my teammates!'

CLEVELAND - On Thursday, Cleveland's centerfielder Kenny Lofton displayed his sensational ability to handle the bat against Oakland, punishing their pitchers with five hits.
