The Brewers end the second month of the 1991 season right in the thick of the AL Wildcard race. The Brew Crew went 15-13 for May bringing their season record t 31-24 as the calendar flips to June. This year's squad is very much being propelled by its hitters lead by Nixon and Yount at the top of the order. In the middle of the line up slugger Mark Parent is showing himself to be a power threat and young Jose Canseco is pushing him in the race for team leader in home runs.
The pitching side of the equation has more questions than answers at this point of the season. On the positive side Kevin Tapani has emerged as the staff ace many pegged him as given his talent level and, Mike Walters remains the reliable every 5th day option in the rotation. The ability is there for pitchers like Woody Williams, Rick Aguilera and Mark Griffin but consistency has escaped the grasp of this trio in 1991.
Brewers Batter of the Month 2B Joey Cora .333BA .404OPB 0HR 13RBI 16R - Cora has been reaching base and providing a steady source of runs in the bottom third of the order.
Brewers Pitcher of the Month RP Ken Howell 1-1 1SV 3.72ERA 19.1IP 13BB 13K - Howell takes home this month's award in down month for the pitching staff.
Rookie Watch Utility infielder Jeff Branson remains the only rookie on this year's roster. Branson is sporting an over .300 batting average in his limited appearances.
Countdown to 3000 for Robin Yount Season starting total: 2832 hits April: 27 hits May: 31 hits Current total: 2890 Remaining : 110 Projected achievement: Early September
