Brad Radke was the very first draft selection of the Colorado Rockies in the 1991 Amateur Draft, as we sit a little more than halfway through the minor league
season it's a good time to check on the progress of what the Rockies hope will be a staple of their rotation in a few years. Radke has not had the initial success
that second round pick Steve Karsay has had, who continues to dominate in AA Shreveport, however he continues to do what the Rockies pictured him doing,
and that's eat a lot of innings. Radke is averaging almost seven innings a start in San Jose. And while the numbers aren't eye popping, Radke continues to get
the job done. He's currently sporting a record of 10-2 with a 4.42 ERA. The wins are not necessarily a surprise on the veteran laden San Jose squad which sits at
60-21, but Rockies brass does think it speaks to the bulldog mentality that Radke showed scouts pre-draft. Radke has a WHIP of 1.35 and has only walked 32 men
in 91+ innings. The control has been there even if the stuff has a ways to go. The Rockies have been content to be patient with Radke at only 18 years old. Will he
get a look at AA in this, his first season as a pro? It's possible that the Rockies give him a look the last month of the minor league season, but at this point development
is the key word and the Rockies have plenty of time to let Radke grow in their organization.
