David Justice from California wins his 3rd Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. David went 9 for 19 (.474), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 7 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 7 games. It's the 3rd time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Atlanta's pitcher Greg Maddux. Greg went 2-0 with an ERA of 0.53, while fanning 15 in 17 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well. This season Maddux compiled an ERA of 1.29, going 17-2 in 24 starts. He fanned 126 while giving up 106 hits in 181.2 innings. Thursday 8/4/1991: Mike Moore fires 2-hitter against Boston
OAKLAND - Oakland's right-hander Mike Moore is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Boston on just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 7th time he has done it in his career. 'Today I just felt fine. I had a good feeling while warming up.' Moore (7-10) struck out 3 and issued 3 BB, throwing 63 of 112 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for Oakland was second baseman Tim Hulett, he got 1 hit in 4 AB, blasting a homerun, with 3 RBI. Oakland improved its record to 54-54, scoring 8 runs on 11 hits.
Tuesday 8/2/1991: Ernie Camacho (CHA) will miss 4 weeks
CHICAGO (A) - When it rains, it pours. Chicago (A)'s right-hander Ernie Camacho will not pitch for at least 4 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Baltimore where he left the field in the 10th inning. Pulled Rotator Cuff Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Ernie has a record of 5-1 this season, with an ERA of 2.97. In 39.1 Innings he was able to strike out 31 batters.

CHICAGO (N) - Jack Morris had some fun again. Chicago (N) hitters did not. Philadelphia's right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 2nd shutout of the season. He now has 18 career shutouts in 441 games started. Luis A. Rivera spoiled the bid for a no-hitter when he singled with no outs in the 5th inning. 'I hit the corners with all of my pitches. That helped a lot!' Morris (11-5) struck out 7 and walked 1, throwing 60 of 93 pitches for strikes. Mike R. Fitzgerald helped Morris at the plate, he collected 2 hits in 3 trips to the plate, blasting a homerun, scoring twice and driving in 2 runs. The final score of the game was 5-0.
Monday 8/1/1991: Huge blow for Oakland's Hurdle, career over
OAKLAND - Oakland's season has taken a hit after one of their best players, first baseman Clint Hurdle, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss entire career. After being taken to a local hospital, Hurdle was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Torn Hamstring Muscle. Hurdle has walked 42 times this year and posts a .402 OBP.
