CALIFORNIA - When it rains, it pours. California's ace Steve McCatty will not pitch for at least 6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Detroit where he left the field in the 8th inning. California wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that McCatty had suffered a Bone Chips Shoulder. Opposing players hit .271 against Steve this season. While posting an ERA of 3.93 he went 11-9 in 27 starts, fanning 71 and walking 106 hitters. He has 6 complete games and 2 shutouts.
Monday 8/22/1991: Minnesota's Moreland wins Player of the Week award
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Minnesota's Keith Moreland this time, as the designated hitter displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Moreland helped his team with an average of .520 and 10 RBI in 25 at bats. Keith managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week. He has hit 9 longballs while batting .271 this season. His 120 hits and 29 walks add up to a .314 on-base percentage. It's the 2nd time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Houston's pitcher Erik Hanson. Hanson was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.17. Along the way he struck out 12 in 15.1 innings. He hurled a shutout as well. This season Hanson compiled an ERA of 3.38, going 11-9 in 25 starts. He fanned 98 while giving up 142 hits in 162.2 innings. He has 2 complete games and 2 shutouts.

MONTREAL - Montreal's ace Jerry Augustine suffered a severe injury on Friday and will be out for at least 4-5 weeks. In the 1st of the game against Chicago (N) he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Augustine was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Strained Elbow Ligament. His ERA of 5.50 helped him to a 5-12 record this year. He struck out 67 and walked 57 in 142.1 innings.
