Tuesday 9/13/1991: Harold Reynolds hits for the cycle against Oakland
OAKLAND - New York (A)'s second baseman Harold Reynolds accomplished a difficult feat in a game against Oakland, hitting for the cycle to improve his career batting average to .255! A pitch from Dickie Noles in the 1st inning left his bat for a double. Hit number 2 followed in the 5th inning, a two-run triple. A single in the 7th off Ken Dayley accounted for his 3rd hit. His 4th hit, a three-run homerun off Ken Dayley in the 8th inning, landed an estimated 366 feet from home plate. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Harold scored 3 runs, and he collected 5 RBI as well! His 4 hit performance increases his batting average to .264. 76 players in league history have so far hit for the cycle, including Harold. Fred McGriff was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 7/26/1991.
Monday 9/12/1991: Thomas and Bonds win Player of the Week award
It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Chicago (A)'s first baseman Frank E. Thomas. Frank E. was on fire, hitting .483 with 1 HR and 10 RBI. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 9 game hitting streak right now. San Francisco's rightfielder Barry Bonds had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. He hit .440 with 11 RBI and slugged 1.040 in 25 at bats. His season features a batting average of .302 (161 hits in 533 AB), 26 doubles, 3 triples and 28 homeruns. Bonds collected 95 RBI and 94 runs as well. He's 6th in the National League in batting, 1st in homeruns and 2nd in RBI!

MILWAUKEE - Cleveland's right-hander Alejandro Pena is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Milwaukee on just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 2nd time he has done it in his career. Pena (15-8) fanned 6 and walked 3, throwing 95 pitches. 'Giving my team a chance to win is the most important thing for me. I was able to do it today.' The hitting star for Cleveland was shortstop Cal Ripken, he got 4 hits in 5 AB, blasting a homerun, scoring 2 runs with 2 RBI. Cleveland improved its record to 82-57, scoring 7 runs on 19 hits.
