Well here we are at the end of another season of HOFFBL, and yet another year to put into perspective. So much has happened since the beginning of April to this point, the time of year all baseball players year for, to play in October.
We start this around the horn in the AL East, with Boston. Boston is to losing what the giants are to winning, but even the giants aren’t THAT good at winning. Maybe with another 4 or 5 number 1 picks Boston will be ready to challenge for the pennant, but their window is opening again as the Blue Jays are getting older, and the Yankees are but a shell of their former greatness.
On to the Yankees we go, and it is hard to believe this is the same team from just a few years back that was on such a dominant tear they were winning the east for 10 straight years. In what would be thought as a rebuild, the trading away of top flight talent has not brought in what would be the expected top flight youngsters. This season looks to be repeated for some time unless, some FA are signed to right the ship once more.
Onward to Baltimore we go, where again one of the most talented teams in the league, finished just a tad over 500. It has got to be driving the GM J.A.H. insane with how great a team he that has just refuses to play as a team. While a few seasons ago the Orioles won big in the Roger Rocket sweepstakes, that seems to be the last time they won big, and after missing the post season on the 163rd game of the season, it is beginning to look like they peaked that season.
The Indians are the epitome of hard luck, oh so good year after year and just good enough to come in 5th for the post season yet again. Amazing talent on the team, the question is, can they put together another few years till one of the big dogs crumbles under its success?
Another 100 win season, but this seems to be the most challenging season yet for the Blue Jays. The team just expects to win now and the drive seams toi not be quite what it once was. Again, with the exploding payroll and again with the lackluster income, this is a team that is bleeding money but somehow manages to get other teams to finance its success.
