Monday 5/2/1992: Clark and Dravecky win Player of the Week award
It's the 2nd time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Toronto's third baseman Jack Clark. Jack was on fire, hitting .550 with 2 HR and 10 RBI. Chicago (N)'s pitcher Dave Dravecky had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Dave went 2-0 with an ERA of 1.08, while fanning 16 in 16.2 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well.
Sunday 5/1/1992: San Francisco's Jackson severely injured
SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco's right-hander Mike R. Jackson suffered a severe injury on Sunday and will be out for at least 5 weeks. In the 5th of the game against New York (N) he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. San Francisco wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Jackson had suffered a Strained Tricep Muscle. This season Jackson compiled an ERA of 2.14, going 4-0 in 6 starts. He fanned 35 while giving up 33 hits in 42 innings. He's 3rd in the National League in wins!
Sunday 5/1/1992: San Diego's Aquino named Pitcher of the Month
The best month of April in the American League certainly had California's left-hander Mike Jeffcoat, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. He started 6 games in April, going 6-0 and compiling an ERA of 1.82 in 49.1 innings. Mike fanned 34 hitters. Mike also fired a shutout. San Diego's Luis Aquino had a terrific April, and it earned him the National League Pitcher of the month award. He started 6 games in April, going 4-1 and compiling an ERA of 0.72 in 49.2 innings. Luis fanned 24 hitters.

It's the 2nd time that the American League Batter of the Month award goes to Toronto's third baseman Jack Clark. Clark helped his team with an average of .346 and 31 RBI in 104 at bats. The National League Batter of the Month award goes to Jeromy Burnitz, Chicago (N)'s starting centerfielder. Burnitz helped his team with an average of .330 and 27 RBI in 103 at bats.
Saturday 4/30/1992: 5-hit performance by Toronto's Jack Clark
TEXAS - Jack Clark is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. His 4th hit, off Luis DeLeon in the 8th inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in left field. Hit number 5 followed in the 9th inning, a two-run triple. He had singles in the 1st inning , in the 5th inning and in the 6th . Jack did drive in 4 while scoring 3 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .346. Toronto scored 15 runs on 22 hits.
Friday 4/29/1992: Montreal has no chance in a 2-hitter by Steve Shields
LOS ANGELES (N) - Great days are rare. But not for Los Angeles (N)'s right-hander Steve Shields. Montreal found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 21st time he has done it in his career. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.' Shields (3-0) was overpowering, fanning 12 while walking 2, throwing 110 pitches. Hector Villanueva helped Shields at the plate, he finished with 1 hit in 3 AB. Los Angeles (N) improved its record to 14-12, scoring 2 runs on 6 hits.
Thursday 4/28/1992: Neil Allen pitches 2-hit shutout against Chicago (N)
NEW YORK (N) - Chicago (N)'s offense is struggling, and New York (N)'s Neil Allen didn't help them. The right-hander fired his 1st shutout of the season, a 2-hitter. 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches.' Allen (1-4) fanned 2 and walked 2, throwing 117 pitches. New York (N)'s shortstop Ty Waller got 1 hit in 4 AB, blasting a homerun, with 4 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Allen. The final score of the game was 5-0.

CHICAGO (N) - Chicago (N)'s southpaw Dave Dravecky is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Philadelphia on just 2 hits. MONTREAL - Montreal is without its right-hander Kevin Hagen for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Darryl Hamilton in a game against St. Louis. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being taken to a local hospital, Hagen was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Torn Bicep Muscle. In 5 starts this year Kevin struck out 33 batters in 31 innings of work. His ERA is 4.94, his record 1-2.
