Monday 5/9/1992: Mike Moore fires PERFECT GAME against Baltimore
BALTIMORE - Oakland's right-hander Mike Moore made some history today, firing a perfect game against Baltimore. Their hitters found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, never having a chance against his overpowering stuff. The crowd of 32831 gave him a standing ovation when teammates carried him off the field on their shoulders. Moore (3-4) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 7. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Mark McGwire provided Oakland with the offense Moore needed as he finished with 1 hit in 4 AB, hitting a homerun, and driving in 2 runs. The final score of the game was 4-0.
Monday 5/9/1992: Player of the Week honors go to Polonia and Biancalana
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Luis Polonia, Milwaukee's starting leftfielder. Luis went 10 for 19 (.526), while hitting 1 HR and collecting 4 RBI. Polonia has hit for a .269 average this season. He has 15 extra base hits along with 55 total bases, resulting in a .423 slugging percentage. Buddy Biancalana from Chicago (N) wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. In 19 at bats he hit .526 with 1 HR and 10 RBI.

ATLANTA - Atlanta's right-hander Don Robinson made some history today, firing a perfect game against Cincinnati. Their hitters found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, never having a chance against his overpowering stuff. The crowd of 59139 gave him a standing ovation when teammates carried him off the field on their shoulders. Robinson (3-0) struck out 4 and walked none, throwing 52 of 85 pitches for strikes. 'Wow, what a nice day. I guess I had a good breakfast today. That's a dream coming true for me!' Julio Cruz provided Atlanta with the offense Robinson needed as he stroked 2 hits in 4 AB, scoring twice. Atlanta improved its record to 23-10, scoring 4 runs on 9 hits.
Friday 5/6/1992: Jamie Moyer out for 5 weeks
DETROIT - When it rains, it pours. Detroit's southpaw Jamie Moyer will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against New York (A) where he left the field in the 7th inning. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Inflamed Rotator Cuff Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. This season Moyer compiled an ERA of 2.84, going 2-3 in 7 starts. He fanned 26 while giving up 37 hits in 50.2 innings. Jamie has pitched one shutout and 2 complete games.
