Orel Hershiser couldn't have pitched much better than he did in June, and the American League thought so as well, naming the right-hander Pitcher of the Month. He went 3-1 in June and finished the month with an ERA of 0.38. He struck out 27 in 47.1 innings. Orel also fired a shutout. Orel has a record of 7-3 this season, with an ERA of 1.39. In 123 Innings he was able to strike out 88 batters. He has 3 complete games and one shutout. Seattle's John Smoltz had a terrific June, and it earned him the American League Pitcher of the month award. His ERA of just 0.47 helped him to a 4-0 record in June. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 4th time he has done it in his career. Burkett (8-5) fanned 6 and walked none, throwing 88 pitches. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' The hitting star for Minnesota was designated hitter Pete M. TORONTO - Great days are rare. But not for Toronto's right-hander Kevin Brown. New York (A) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 12th time he has done it in his career. 'I hit the corners with all of my pitches. That helped a lot!' NEW YORK (N) - Montreal's first baseman Rex Hudler once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball.
