Orel Hershiser couldn't have pitched much better than he did in June, and the American League thought so as well, naming the right-hander Pitcher of the Month. He went 3-1 in June and finished the month with an ERA of 0.38. He struck out 27 in 47.1 innings. Orel also fired a shutout. Orel has a record of 7-3 this season, with an ERA of 1.39. In 123 Innings he was able to strike out 88 batters. He has 3 complete games and one shutout. Seattle's John Smoltz had a terrific June, and it earned him the American League Pitcher of the month award. His ERA of just 0.47 helped him to a 4-0 record in June. MINNESOTA - Great days are rare. But not for Minnesota's right-hander John Burkett. Seattle found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just one hit. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 4th time he has done it in his career. Burkett (8-5) fanned 6 and walked none, throwing 88 pitches. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' The hitting star for Minnesota was designated hitter Pete M. O'Brien, he got 1 hit in 4 AB, hitting a double, and driving in 2 runs. Minnesota scored 2 runs on 4 hits.
Tuesday 6/28/1992: Kevin Brown blanks New York (A) with a 2-hitter
TORONTO - Great days are rare. But not for Toronto's right-hander Kevin Brown. New York (A) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 12th time he has done it in his career. 'I hit the corners with all of my pitches. That helped a lot!' Brown (10-4) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking none, throwing 109 pitches. Toronto's rightfielder Bob Skube stroked 2 hits in 3 AB, homering once, and driving in 3 runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Brown. Toronto improved its record to 50-30, scoring 5 runs on 6 hits.

NEW YORK (N) - Montreal's first baseman Rex Hudler once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up New York (N)'s pitching staff with a 5 hit performance on Monday. In the 1st inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Terry Clark. His 3rd hit, off Terry Clark in the 5th inning, was a three-run homerun and cleared the fence in left field. He collected singles in the 4th (two RBIs) , in the 7th inning and in the 9th . Rex scored 3 runs, and he collected 6 RBI as well! His 5 hit performance increases his batting average to .234. Montreal improved its record to 34-46, scoring 11 runs on 18 hits.
