The American League's best player of the week was Cleveland's Danny Jackson, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 1.04 while going 2-0. He hurled a shutout as well. This season Jackson compiled an ERA of 4.44, going 10-10 in 24 starts. He fanned 102 while giving up 182 hits in 162 innings. Danny has pitched 2 shutouts and 3 complete games. San Francisco's third baseman Rob Deer had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Rob pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .500 with 3 HR and 7 RBI while slugging 1.056.
Thursday 8/4/1992: San Francisco's Julio Franco laces 2000th career hit
PITTSBURGH - San Francisco's second baseman Julio Franco was in good mood after the game against Pittsburgh, and he had every reason as he made some history while collecting his 2000th career hit. His best year so far was 1988 where he hit .325 with 18 homeruns and 109 RBI. 'It's hard to believe that I did it. I want to thank my family, my friends and my teammates!' He hit a single in the 1st off Frank Tanana for number 2000.
Monday 8/1/1992: Baines (DET) and Davis (MON) win P.O.W. award
Detroit's rightfielder Harold Baines had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Harold pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .400 with 4 HR and 10 RBI while slugging 1.050. Baines has walked 30 times this year and posts a .316 OBP. While batting .255, 87 for 341, he has driven in 51 runs. Montreal's centerfielder Mike Davis had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Mike pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .500 with 3 HR and 7 RBI while slugging .958.
Monday 8/1/1992: Atlanta's Robinson named Pitcher of the Month
Orel Hershiser couldn't have pitched much better than he did in July, and the American League thought so as well, naming the right-hander Pitcher of the Month. His ERA of just 0.90 helped him to a 4-0 record in July. He worked 30 innings, striking out 20 hitters while walking 9. Orel got two complete game shutouts as well! In 21 starts this year Orel struck out 108 batters in 153 innings of work. His ERA is 1.29, his record 11-3. He has 5 complete games and 3 shutouts. Atlanta's Don Robinson had a terrific July, and it earned him the National League Pitcher of the month award. He struck out 17 hitters in his 5 starts, putting together a record of 2-0 while pitching 17 innings. His ERA in July was 0.66. Don got two complete game shutouts as well! Opposing players hit .129 against Don this season. While posting an ERA of 1.53 he went 8-4 in 21 starts, fanning 85 and walking 19 hitters. He has 5 complete games and 4 shutouts.

Boston's leftfielder Greg Vaughn had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Batter of the Month. In 96 at bats he hit .406 with 9 HR and 31 RBI. Vaughn has hit for a .255 average this season. He has 40 extra base hits along with 187 total bases, resulting in a .482 slugging percentage. He's 4th in the American League in RBIs and 2nd in homeruns! The National League's best player of the month was St. Louis' Felix Jose, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Jose helped his team with an average of .415 and 18 RBI in 94 at bats. Jose has hit 19 homeruns this year while batting .358. He adds 27 doubles, along with 76 runs scored.
