Saturday 10/1/1992: Pitcher of the Month award winners announced
It's the 1st time that the American League Pitcher of the Month award goes to California's pitcher Jeff Peterek. He started 6 games in September, going 5-0 and compiling an ERA of 0.72 in 50 innings. Jeff fanned 22 hitters. Jeff pitched a shutout as well. Jeff has a record of 24-7 this season, with an ERA of 2.91. In 247 Innings he was able to strike out 115 batters. He has 11 complete games and 4 shutouts. He's 2nd in the American League in wins! Los Angeles (N)'s Dan Petry had a terrific September, and it earned him the National League Pitcher of the month award. His ERA of just 0.47 helped him to a 5-0 record in September. He worked 57 innings, striking out 57 hitters while walking 9. Dan also fired a shutout. Opposing players hit .215 against Dan this season. While posting an ERA of 1.72 he went 19-8 in 35 starts, fanning 262 and walking 48 hitters. Dan has pitched 4 shutouts and 8 complete games. He's 6th in the National League in ERA and 6th in wins!

Pete M. O'Brien of Minnesota wins his 4th Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the American League. Pete M. was on fire, hitting .352 with 2 homeruns and 25 RBI. O'Brien has hit for a .291 average this season. He has 50 extra base hits along with 243 total bases, resulting in a .415 slugging percentage. The Batter of the Month award in the National League goes to Atlanta's Julio Cruz this time, as the second baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He hit .409 with 19 RBI and slugged .600 in 110 at bats. Cruz has walked 58 times this year and posts a .375 OBP. While batting .315, 198 for 628, he has driven in 74 runs. He's 8th in the National League in batting!
Friday 9/30/1992: Atlanta's U.L. Washington laces 2000th career hit
ATLANTA - Atlanta's U.L. Washington showed a smile on his face after he got his 2000th career hit against San Francisco on Friday. He hit a single in the 2nd off Dave Righetti for number 2000. His best year so far was 1987 where he hit .271 with 18 homeruns and 63 RBI. 'Wow. That is all I can say now. I'm thrilled.'
Monday 9/26/1992: Atlanta's Cruz wins Player of the Week award
It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Kansas City's second baseman Webster Garrison. In 21 at bats he hit .476 with 3 HR and 6 RBI. The National League's best player of the week was Atlanta's Julio Cruz, who wins the award for the 4th time in his career. In 29 at bats he hit .483 with 2 HR and 8 RBI. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 11 game hitting streak right now.
Sunday 9/25/1992: Kevin Brown shuts out New York (A) on 2 hits
NEW YORK (A) - Toronto's right-hander Kevin Brown is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking New York (A) on just 2 hits. It's his 6th shutout this season, and the 15th time he has done it in his career. Brown (20-6) struck out 5 and issued 1 BB, throwing 67 of 110 pitches for strikes. 'Winning is the most important thing. And I gave my team all the support it needed!' Jack Clark provided Toronto with the offense Brown needed as he finished 3 for 5, scoring 2 runs. Toronto scored 5 runs on 8 hits.
Friday 9/23/1992: Don Robinson dominates San Diego, gives up just 2 hits
ATLANTA - Great days are rare. But not for Atlanta's right-hander Don Robinson. San Diego found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 7th shutout this season, and the 33rd time he has done it in his career. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Robinson (15-6) struck out 4 and walked 1, throwing 61 of 104 pitches for strikes. Atlanta's second baseman Julio Cruz went 3 for 5, and collecting 3 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Robinson. The final score of the game was 8-0.
