It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Detroit's catcher Chris Hoiles. He hit .560 with 11 RBI and slugged .920 in 25 at bats. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Los Angeles (N)'s Mike Diaz this time, as the rightfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Mike was on fire, hitting .632 with 2 HR and 7 RBI.
Sunday 4/17/1994: Montreal's Poehl severely injured
MONTREAL - When it rains, it pours. Montreal's right-hander Mike Poehl will not pitch for at least 6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Philadelphia where he left the field in the 7th inning. Spasms Back was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Opposing players hit .290 against Mike this season. While posting an ERA of 4.86 he went 0-2 in 3 starts, fanning 12 and walking 4 hitters.
Sunday 4/17/1994: Atlanta's Javier severely injured
ATLANTA - Atlanta's players were scared when they had to watch Stan Javier suffer a serious injury when he dove for a ball in the game against Cincinnati. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Javier will probaby miss 9 weeks. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Broken Wrist which will require surgery. Javier has hit no taters this year while batting .348. He adds no doubles, along with 6 runs scored.

CINCINNATI - Cincinnati's centerfielder Bip Roberts hurt himself in the 5th inning while diving for a batted ball. He got up slowly and had to leave the game. Bip Roberts will miss at least 4-5 weeks. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Spasms Back which will require surgery.

Thursday 4/7/1994: Darryl Strawberry collects five hits against Colorado
COLORADO - Darryl Strawberry punished Colorado's pitching today, collecting five hits in 6 AB. That definitely helped San Francisco, they won the game 15 to 2. In the 2nd inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Ben McDonald. His 2nd hit, a solo homerun off Ben McDonald in the 3rd inning, landed an estimated 394 feet from home plate. His 3rd cleared the based, a three-run double off Ben McDonald in the 5th inning. His 4th hit was a double off Tim Crews in the 7th inning. He had a single in the 9th. Darryl did drive in 5 while scoring 3 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 8 hits in 18 at bats, resulting in a .444 batting average.
