Monday 5/2/1994: Detroit's Bonilla wins Player of the Week award
It's the 1st time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Detroit's designated hitter Bobby Bonilla. In 26 at bats he hit .615 with 4 HR and 13 RBI. The National League's best player of the week was San Francisco's Will Clark, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. He hit .500 with 10 RBI and slugged 1.000 in 28 at bats. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
Sunday 5/1/1994: Brown (TOR) and Walk (SFG) win monthly pitcher award
It's the 3rd time that the American League Pitcher of the Month award goes to Toronto's pitcher Kevin Brown. His ERA of just 0.83 helped him to a 5-0 record in April. He worked 43.1 innings, striking out 25 hitters while walking 3. Kevin also fired a shutout. Winner of this months National League Pitcher of the Month award is San Francisco's Bob Walk. He had an ERA of just 1.46 in 37 innings of work in which he struck out 17 hitters. His record in April is 5-0.

It's the 1st time that the American League Batter of the Month award goes to Toronto's first baseman Gary Sheffield. Sheffield helped his team with an average of .381 and 25 RBI in 97 at bats. The Batter of the Month award in the National League goes to San Francisco's Will Clark this time, as the first baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Clark helped his team with an average of .394 and 21 RBI in 99 at bats.

PHILADELPHIA - San Francisco's first baseman Will Clark flexed his muscles and displayed his tremendous power, homering three times in a 13-4 win over Philadelphia. His 1st shot, off David Nied in the 1st inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in right-center. Number 2 in the 6th inning, a shot estimated at 436 feet, cleared the wall in left-center. His 3rd shot, a solo homerun off Satoru Komiyama in the 8th inning, cleared the fence in right-center. Will stroked 4 hits in 5 AB, scoring FOUR runs and collecting 6 RBI. Kevin Mitchell was the last player to hit 3 homeruns in a game, doing it 9/25/1993. San Francisco scored 13 runs on 19 hits.
Wednesday 4/27/1994: Randy Myers (TOR) will miss 5 weeks
TORONTO - When it rains, it pours. Toronto's left-hander Randy Myers will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Baltimore where he left the field in the 2nd inning. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Pulled Rotator Cuff Muscle. His ERA of 5.25 helped him to a 0-3 record this year. He struck out 7 and walked 3 in 12 innings.
Tuesday 4/26/1994: Fred McGriff clubs five hits in a game
CHICAGO (N) - Los Angeles (N)'s first baseman Fred McGriff accomplished a difficult feat in a 10-2 win over Chicago (N), drilling five hits to improve his career batting average to .250! A 359 foot drive to left field marked his 2nd hit, a two-run homerun off Ken Hill in the 3rd inning. His 3rd hit, a solo homerun off Ken Hill in the 5th inning, landed an estimated 418 feet from home plate. He collected singles in the 1st , in the 6th (one RBI) and in the 9th inning . Fred did drive in 4 while scoring 3 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .304. Los Angeles (N) scored 10 runs on 14 hits.
Monday 4/25/1994: Wayne Kirby out for full season
FLORIDA - Florida's third baseman Wayne Kirby suffered a season ending injury when he hurt himself firing a ball to first base. He collapsed in pain after the throw and was helped off the field. Florida wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Kirby had suffered a Torn Rotator Cuff Muscle. He has hit 2 bombs while batting .243 this season. His 17 hits and 1 walks add up to a .254 on-base percentage.
Monday 4/25/1994: Chicago (A)'s Williams wins Player of the Week award
Chicago (A)'s rightfielder Bernie F. Williams had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. In 21 at bats he hit .429 with 5 HR and 10 RBI. Bernie F. managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week. Bernie F. is hitting .314 this year, with 22 hits in 70 at bats. He has driven in 14 runs, slugging .543. He's 5th in the American League in RBIs and 3rd in homeruns! Chico Walker wins his 7th Player of the Week award. National League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Chico was on fire, hitting .455 with 4 HR and 8 RBI.
