Milwaukee's first baseman Tino Martinez had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Tino went 13 for 27 (.481), while hitting 4 HR and collecting 14 RBI. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Javy Lopez, Colorado's starting catcher. In 29 at bats he hit .517 with 2 HR and 12 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 7 games.

COLORADO - Javy Lopez saw the ball really well, leading Colorado to a 23-4 win over New York (N). His six hits thrilled his teammates and coaches, and Javy seemed happy as well after the game. A double off Mike L. Griffin in the 3rd inning accounted for his 2nd hit. A RBI double off Mike L. Griffin in the 5th inning accounted for his 3rd hit. He had singles in the 1st inning (one RBI) , in the 6th inning (one RBI) , in the 7th inning (one RBI) and in the 8th (one RBI). Javy did drive in 5 while scoring 3 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .416.
Thursday 5/5/1994: Pittsburgh has no chance in a 2-hitter by Morris Madden
PITTSBURGH - Morris Madden took the mound and never left. And Pittsburgh hitters couldn't touch him at all. St. Louis' southpaw gave up just 2 hits in his 1st shutout of the season. He now has 3 career shutouts in 191 games started. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Madden (3-2) struck out 5 and issued 1 BB, throwing 59 of 103 pitches for strikes. St. Louis' second baseman Juan Samuel stroked 1 hit in 3 AB, homering once. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Madden. St. Louis scored 4 runs on 7 hits.
Thursday 5/5/1994: Chicago (A)'s Ghelfi out for 5 weeks
CHICAGO (A) - Chicago (A) is without its right-hander Tony Ghelfi for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Alex Trevino in a game against Minnesota. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being taken to a local hospital, Ghelfi was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Spasms Back. Tony has a record of 2-1 this season, with an ERA of 3.71. In 34 Innings he was able to strike out 31 batters.

TORONTO - When it rains, it pours. Toronto's right-hander Todd Worrell will not pitch for at least 8 weeks, handing the team a huge setback.
